The City of Hibbing has failed to approve a motion that would have reduced the taxes on our pull tab operations. The 10% tax imposed by the city means that we have $3500 less per year for our programs. Hibbing Youth Hockey Association(HYHA) is and independent nonprofit organization that offers a youth hockey program for children in Hibbing and Chisholm without benefit of city or school district tax support. Our programs serve youth from first grade though ninth grade. Many area programs rely on city and school district financial support either in part or in total. No other sports program in the City of Hibbing is required to pay tax to Hibbing on their fundraising efforts. HYHA saves the city and school district tax dollars by running a self sustaining program. Please write or call your council member and Mayor Wolff to let them know these facts and let them know that they should support reduction or repeal of this unfair tax.
